OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Kickstarter, Here We Come!

We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a Kickstarter campaign for the Prelimb App July 16th!

Let us give you the low-down.

Most of you know what the Prelimb App is about, but if you don’t, simply check out our video on our website at You’ll be glad you did!

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that allows small businesses to gain financial capital from the people that really matter – the people that are passionate about an idea or product.

We’re proud to have bootstrapped our start-up business. We’ve steered away from potential investors to make sure we keep control over the vision and direction of the company this early in the game. However, that puts the pressure of financing on us. Doing so, we have the following issues:

  • We have just over 50 plants in-app. We need to include 100’s more to make this feasible for people to use around the world.
  • Commercial licensure for our software is costly & we cannot afford to continue paying for it out of pocket.
  • We all have jobs, but really, really want to work on Prelimb full-time. Sadly, we also have to pay the bills.

If we’re funded on Kickstarter, we can solve all of the problems above. The funds will allow us to:

  • Have OVER 100 plants in the app upon launch, and update the app biweekly with 10’s of plants at a time, from a wide variety of climate zones
  • Purchase the commercial licensure to the software we need to fuel Prelimb
  • Most of all, it’ll allow us to dedicate our time to Prelimb to get all of this done.

The Prelimb App Kickstarter campaign will launch July 16th, 2015.

  • Join our mailing list! That’ll keep you as close to us as a first-born child. We’ll update you weekly with Prelimb events and news. Join here: (Scroll down to Newsletter Sign Up)

Concerned about the drought? Plan out your DIY Drought-Tolerant space with Prelimb soon!

Whether you’re a Californian or not, you’re likely familiar with the ongoing drought in California. This record-breaking drought has forced many counties in California to enforce strict water-usage limitations, especially in regard to lawn irrigation. Even outside of California, our state’s recent issues with water has inspired people around the world to be more water conscious.

I do some work consulting homeowners on replacing their lawns with drought-tolerant plant species up in Chico, CA, and my phone has been ringing non-stop for new yard designs. As I work on 10 concurrent lawn replacement projects, I’m reminded how much the Prelimb App would solve so many planning obstacles my clients are experiencing! Soon, you’ll be able to do the same.

I’m working on replacing an area of my yard with drought-tolerant plants, and wanted to share how I use Prelimb to plan out my new space in less than 3 minutes. Here we go!

After creating a new project for my yard, I’m going to head to the Plant Selection page and find plants that work for my space. But why look through them all? Let’s filter through the plants so I only see drought-tolerant species.

After filtering my plants, I chose a few plants to fill my small space. They’re now displayed at the bottom in my list, so I can quickly drag them into my yard.B2-DT2

I knew I wanted a couple grasses & evergreen plants. I get both sun and shade here, so I needed to fit the plants accordingly. I didn’t want it too cluttered, but definitely wanted it to fill in over time. After about a minute of fiddling around, I’m happy with the look.

Moment of truth.. let’s get an idea of how it’ll look in a few years!

Whew! Looks like plants are fairly spaced. Let’s check it out from some other angles.

Because Prelimb is all in real-time and real-space, you can move around your yard and see how your new design will look from almost any angle!

Pretty happy with my new design. But I’ll want to be able to come back to it and modify it if I need to, or even take my iPad to the nursery and test my plant choices while I buy the plants. Time to save the plant positions!

So, what’d you think? Soon you’ll be able to use Prelimb to plan out YOUR next drought-tolerant DIY project! Feel free to leave any feedback, suggestions or comments on this blog, or contact us at

Happy planting to all!

My, how things have changed! Over the past year, we’ve been pretty quiet on the marketing front for our app, Prelimb. We’ve been testing how to deliver the best user experience to our users – through multiple rounds of testing, and countless hours in new development and revisions. So where does that bring us now?

1. We’ve revamped the entire Prelimb process.

Initially, Prelimb would toss you right into designing your yard from the moment you opened the app. Though this brought you right to the bread and butter of our application, we realize we missed a few key steps.

Before copy

What if you want to work on multiple separate projects? Or test out and save more than one design at a time? Now you can. Create a project with a name, location, and date, and Prelimb will save all your data to that project – so you can work seamlessly between various planting designs.

One of our major value propositions is to help you choose the right plant for the right place, right in the context of your yard. But we weren’t teaching you about the plants before you tested them out in your space. Now we introduce the ‘Plant Selection’ scene – where you can scroll through various plants by type and get to know the plants before you test them out. You can also filter the plants by characteristics; i.e. drought tolerance, full-sun needs, or deer resistance, to make sure you’re finding the perfect fit for your yard.

Now that you’ve prepped your project, you can look at your space with the info you need to get started designing. Plants you saved to your ‘List’ will show up here, and you can view them all in real-time, and real space. Watch them grow and come to life!

We’ve also added and improved upon a host of other features – namely saving and loading plant locations, making calibration much easier, and adding new plants to the app. We have quite a few more plants to include before our release, and are working hard to help you plan your own planting projects with Prelimb.

2. Additions & Training!

Jim Wells has been working on backend development for Prelimb for about 8 months now – and is passionate in simplifying the planting process for everyone. I’ve known Jim for years now, and after pitching the Prelimb mission to him, Jim was an instant-fit. As a hardcore problem solver, Jim takes anything I throw at him and improves it revision after revision. Meet one of our three team players – Jim Wells!

About a year ago, I found an advisor that helped me through countless steps of the start-up process, thanks to her expertise in new tech start-ups, such as the Havoc Physics Engine that she helped bring to the US from Dublin as the VP of Sales. Believing in what we’re solving with the Prelimb app, Monica joined our team and now serves as our Marketing Director. Meet Monica Alderette!

3. Stay Tuned…

We’ll be announcing some exciting news and upcoming events over the next few weeks. Be sure to sign up for our mailing list here to stay in the loop!

We’ll continue to update this blog with our progress & send emails out to keep you up-to-date with us.

Help us spread the word and get this into your hands by liking and sharing this post. And as always, thank you for being a Prelimb fan!
